What a great way to celebrate and document a wedding anniversary! This beautiful couple from Sydney were looking for a couples photographer, called and asked if I could help them celebrate, of course I can!
I found a gorgeous location not far from Camden, closer to Harrington Park and Harrington Grove. Once our location was set it was time to organise clothing, clothing plays a big part in portraits, I always advise clients to try to avoid any heavy graphics, logos, patterns, stripes or anything that will take the focus away from their faces. Clothing should be a secondary element and not steal the show – unless we are doing a fashion shoot of course.
After location and clothing we look at timing, the first and last hour of sunlight each day brings the best light. Natural light is very flattering on its own but the strength and quality low light brings is second to none. I don’t know much about studio lighting as I have always been a natural light photographer but I strongly doubt it would be even close to possible to replicate the gorgeous effects of the early or late afternoon sun.
As a Couples Photographer in Sydney its so nice to be able to go back to where it all started and document the foundation of a family. To get some alone time and focus purely on just two people and their connection. To have the time to fall into each other and enjoy the session.
I haven’t been a Couples Photographer for too long, for many years I focused on newborns, pregnancy, children and family sessions but I decided last year that couples are a family too. I spent a few months building my portfolio and have not looked back since. I photograph couples in the same manner I do families but with extra time and room to get creative as we can go places we wouldn’t normally go and we can also stay out longer and later soaking up every last second of a spectacular sunset.
We had a wonderful afternoon, it was a little cold but the Winter light is worth it. You may notice some photos below we had coats and some without coats, the cold is a great reason and excuse to snuggle up anyway right?
Luckily there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and we got to squeeze every last drop out of our golden light source, needless to say we got back to our cars pretty quickly as the temperature dropped just as fast as the sun!

After your session while you are all dolled up, looking gorgeous and have just spent an hour wrapped in the arms of your love, why not head into Camden for dinner, I am usually photographing not more than 15 minutes from the centre of Camden and a stop for dinner is a great way to finish the evening.
